Dangerous Sythetic Weed Sold in Town
The Copper Basin Coalition dropped off an informational sheet with us that we think you should know about.  Youth in our area are doing this in our community.  It is a synthetic weed and can’t be detected by UA’s, it is sold at our local tobacco shop for $25.00 a gram.  We went yesterday to see how easy it is to get and no problem because it’s sold as a herbal incense.  Some symptoms are like a heart attack, red eyes, some appear with all the symptoms of marijuana use but still can’t be detected by drug screening.   It’s not illegal, it started in the UK and is now banned there and came to the states.  Four states have now outlawed it.
We had a youth (in our community) Monday evening use this, taken to the hospital with symptoms of a heart attack, and finally admitted to his parents that he bought this at the tobacco shop and used it.  This is the second youth in Arizona to be reported.
We are trying to get the word out to parents, first responders, etc., to be aware of what is going on with our youth in our community.

Read "The Law" SB1070

A federal judge on Wednesday granted a partial injunction requested by the federal government on the controversial Arizona immigration law, SB 1070.
U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton has blocked the portion of the law that requires police officers to determine the immigration status of a person detained or arrested.
She also struck down the section of law that makes it a crime if someone fails to carry immigration registration papers and the provision that makes it a crime for an illegal immigrant to seek or perform work.
In all, Bolton struck down four sections of the law, the ones that opponents called
the most controversial parts.
Bolton said she was putting those sections on hold until the courts resolve the issues.

A Federal Judge Dismisses Claims Against Dr. Trent

A Federal Judge has dismissed the federal claims in a class action lawsuit filed by several former Globe Unified School District Employees against School Superintendent Dr. Timothy Trent.
In a class action lawsuit filed in October of 2009 it is alleged that Trent violated U.S Code Title 42: Section 1983. It provides that anyone who, under color of state or local law, causes a person to be deprived of rights guaranteed by the U.S. Constitution, or federal law, is liable to that person. The lawsuit also list three individual state common law claims.
Plaintiff’s appealed the dismissal of the federal claim to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
The state case was reassigned to Pinal County Superior Court Judge William O’Neill.
Because the federal judge did not rule on the defendant motion to dismiss with respect to the state law claims, that motion is till pending.
Plaintiff’s filed a motion to amend the complaint to “clean up” the compliant by removing the named plaintiff’s whose only interest was in the federal class action case and to add on other state law claim of behalf of one of the original plaintiff’s.  No court dates have been set in Pinal County as of yet.
